Parents and Students

I am April Reed, a graduate of Clarke County High School in Grove Hill, Al. I have three other siblings: two older sisters Pamela and LaTisha and a younger brother, Fred. Upon graduation, I enlisted in the U.S. Navy where I completed my basic training and engineering school in Great Lakes, IL. I then received my orders to sea duty aboard the USS Emory S. Land (AS-39) in Norfolk, Va. I briefly visited La Maddalena, Italy to assist in the change of homeport for the ship. I then returned to Virginia Beach, Virginia for shore duty where I completed my intelligence training and enlistment.

I moved to Mobile where I received my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and my master's degree in School Counseling at the University of South Alabama. I taught fourth grade for 4 years at Woodcock Elementary School and I taught sixth grade math for 5 years at Denton Middle School. This is my first year as a school counselor and I'm excited to work with the students, faculty, and staff.

My goal is to foster an environment where students can learn in a safe and friendly place, where they are treated with respect, and where they will receive the help and support of caring adults. In addition, my passion lies in developing the character of the students so they will graduate college/career ready and become positive citizens in society. No matter where they go or who they become, they must have great character to sustain their success. This will be accomplished through providing and facilitating a comprehensive counseling and guidance program. As with all things, it will take time. However, my hope is that as each year passes, you will see us making strides in the right direction.

I provide and can assist you with a wide-range of resources, including small group counseling, individual counseling, classrom guidance, system services for teachers and parents, community outreach, etc. If your child(ren) or family could benefit from any of the above mentioned services, please contact me via email at areed1@mcpss.com or by phone at (251) 221-1750.

Sincerely,

Ms. Reed
